I’ve wanted to live in NYC pretty much my entire life…

I’d been dreaming about moving to a big city since I was a kid. In high school, I shared my goal with a friend of mine and we agreed that when we graduated, we would move across the country together. We imagined renting a tiny studio apartment in the city. We’d decorate the floor with stacks of books and pin our artwork on the walls. We would live the carefree life of starving artists, carving out our destiny in the big city.

I can’t speak for my friend, but for me, I loved the romanticized idea of living in a big city. The bohemian philosophy that money didn’t matter, the only thing that mattered was the art, inspired me.

But, after graduation, instead of moving across the country, my friend and I went our separate ways. I ended up moving to the next state over for college. Even so, I never lost sight of that dream of living in the concrete jungle, living out my best and most creative life.

Even though I didn’t move to New York right after high school, the dream never left my mind. For years, I continued to think about walking down streets of brownstone buildings and living somewhere amongst the towering skyscrapers. I have always had this fantastic attraction to big cities and I knew I was destined to end up in one someday.

Manifesting something you want takes more than wishful thinking.

It takes divine timing and inspired action, too.

Despite dreaming of moving to New York for so long, things kept happening that stopped it from becoming my reality.

Turns out, these roadblocks were a blessing in disguise. Because of them, I ended up staying in Arizona long enough to meet Mikey, my husband and soulmate. Who knows if we ever would have met if I’d immediately gone to the East Coast after high school?

Manifestation Tip #1: Remember Divine Timing

The thing about manifestation is that you are a co-creator in a world filled with billions of people. And all these different lives are interconnected with each other. All the moving pieces must come together before any given manifestation becomes reality. And, sometimes, that sh*t takes time.

If you ever find yourself facing a roadblock that stops you from reaching your goals, it’s probably because of one of two things: either you have a lesson you need to learn before you can move on, or it’s just not the right time yet. Meaning, the other moving pieces still need to fall into place. The frustrating thing is, it might not be the right time yet for a million reasons and you may not know what your reason is until hindsight.

For instance, if I had moved to New York City at 18, I may never have met Mikey. But, I also couldn’t have met him at 18 when I first moved to Arizona because I was in the middle of my previous relationship. I had important lessons to learn before I met the guy I was going to be with forever. Meanwhile, Mikey was also learning lessons that were important for him to learn before he met me.

Likewise, there were many life lessons I had to learn before I was ready to move to New York. So, even though I didn’t know at the time why it felt like my New York dreams kept falling apart, it turns out I just had to wait for the timing to be divine.

Manifestation Tip #2: Take Inspired Action

A common misconception about manifestation is that you can dream your desires into reality through wishful thinking. While visualization is a powerful tool that can help you manifest a desire more quickly, action is a required step. However, you can’t just take any action all willy-nilly. Hustle-type action, lazy action, frantic action, etc. all bring the wrong energy into your vibration and will slow down the manifestation process.

Instead, inspired action— action from your intuition or higher self— is the type of action that you want to lean into.

Things don’t always happen the way you plan them to, but usually, it’s for a really good reason.

In 2021, I took a course called Manifestation Babe Academy and it changed my life. I intended for the course to help me manifest success in a previous business venture that I’d been pursuing. Instead, the course helped me access my intuition in a way I had never consciously done before and my entire life got flipped over like a pancake. I scrapped the previous business and re-evaluated every area of my life.

Then, one day, I got the crazy impulse to sell my house. It was a gut feeling that I knew was right. I talked to Mikey about it and he agreed. It ended up being one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. Not only was the sale a super smooth, fast, and easy process where everything fell into place at exactly the right moments, but we ended up being able to pay off $80,000 in debt between the both of us. I found myself at age 28 being free of debt that I’d thought I’d be carrying with me for decades. Suddenly, I was also location-independent with the funding to support the move I’d been dreaming of my whole life. I finally had nothing stopping me from moving across the country and living out my lifelong fantasy. There were no more roadblocks.

Manifestation Tip #3: Anchor In Your Desires

Despite being location-independent now, there was still a lot of moving pieces that needed to fall into place before I could make the big move. Mikey and I had built a life together in Phoenix and we had certain obligations we still had to fulfill before we could uproot our lives and move across the country.

There was still so much to figure out that at times everything felt so overwhelming. I worried that even though things seemed to fall into place, everything would fall apart again.

So, I decided to anchor my NYC manifestation. I purchased a candle with the New York City skyline printed on the glass. I lit the candle every time I sat down at my desk. Every time I looked at or smelled the candle, I reminded myself that this was happening. The candle anchored me to the knowledge that my manifestation was becoming my new reality. This time it was for real.

Manifestation Tip #4: Hold Tight To Your Vision, But Not So Tight You Squash It.

There’s a saying in the manifestation community that goes like this: “This or something better.”

What it means is, whatever you have envisioned in your mind of how you want your manifestation to come about, well, that might happen. Or the universe might have something even better for you in store. So, don’t hold on so tight to your vision that you miss out on an even better opportunity that could be coming your way.

I had imagined myself living in Queens and I found the perfect apartment there. I began negotiations with the landlord and everything seemed to be falling into place. Until, suddenly, they weren’t. Out of nowhere, the landlord changed their mind about allowing dogs on the property. Even though the apartment was advertised as dog friendly and we had already discussed the dogs in our previous conversation, suddenly it was a no-go.

I was really disappointed. This place matched my vision almost exactly. The only thing it was missing was an office space for Mikey and me to work, but I would have been able to figure that out. And, now that I had spent days speaking with the landlord, the other options I had looked at were taken. I had to start my search over.

I wasn’t going to let the loss of the perfect New York City apartment stop me from living out my dreams. So I lit my candle and I said my mantra of “This or something better” and I kept looking for apartments.

The universe has a funny way of working. It always seems to know what the best option is for all involved.

I couldn’t find any more options in Queens that matched the type of apartment I was looking for, so reluctantly I expanded my search to other boroughs. My sister had been living in Astoria for a few years, so I was doing my best to find apartments that wouldn’t be too far away from her, even if I had to live outside of Queens.

While searching through the listings, I found a cute little apartment in Upper Manhattan. I wasn’t thrilled about living in Manhattan mainly because my entire understanding of the borough was from an outsider’s point of view. I thought it would be a stuffier area, not as down-to-earth as I wanted. But, I had a good feeling about this place, so I reached out to the landlord.

The apartment was a two-bedroom unit and had everything we were looking for. It was fully furnished and was near a park and a subway station. When I told the landlord that I was looking for a unit with an office, he offered to switch out the furniture in the second bedroom for a desk instead. Basically, it was perfect. I booked it.

Then something crazy happened. I texted my sister the address of my new apartment and she mentioned how it was only a 15-minute walk from her new place! Her lease was up in her Astoria apartment and she’d just moved to the same neighborhood that I booked! If the original apartment I had been looking at in Queens had worked out, I would have been a 45-minute train ride away from my sister instead of a simple 15-minute walk. It blows my mind how the universe works sometimes.

I was still a little nervous about the apartment that I’d booked since I was only going off photos online. But once we got here, we could not have been happier. The unit is bigger than we expected and it’s in a great area next to one of the most magical parks I’ve ever been in— with a huge dog run so the pups are happy, too! Everything that I’d imagined in my vision actually became a reality.

How I manifested my NYC apartment and how you can manifest anything you want.

Basically, the manifestation process for anything you desire comes out to the same four simple steps. (By the way, I adopted this manifestation process from Kathrin Zenkina of Manifestation Babe and I swear, it works every freaking time).

1. Get clear on what you want.

I wanted an apartment in Urban New York City with a vibe that matched what I had imagined for years. It had to be a brick building, a unit with space for Mikey and me to work from home, a bathtub big enough for two, a fire escape, and a welcoming space for my dogs.

2. Embody the version of yourself who has what you desire.

I knew I was coming to New York City. Even though I had limiting beliefs that maybe things might fall through, I kept living as though it were happening. I purchased a candle to anchor my manifestation and I took action steps to get ready to move across the country. I planned it out as if it were happening because it was happening.

3. Release the how.

Even though I thought I found the perfect apartment in Queens, when it fell through, I didn’t let myself quit. I released the attachment to that apartment and allowed the universe to show me the best option, and I ended up with something even better.

4. Take inspired action as it comes.

Some people thought I was crazy for selling my house when I didn’t have it all worked out yet. But I knew that it was my higher self telling me what to do. I took that inspired action and everything fell into place in a magical and perfect way. Inspiration told me to look into apartments in Manhattan even though it wasn’t what I originally had in mind, and I ended up finding the perfect place in a great area just down the street from my sister.

Even though it happened differently than I’d imagined, I still managed to manifest myself moving to New York City. I crossed off a bucket list item, appeased my inner child, started a new adventure, and manifested the perfect apartment all in one fell swoop. Pretty freaking cool, huh? I’m still in awe that this actually happened.

A major part of manifesting anything is to take inspired action towards our goals. And, a lot of times, that means leaving our comfort zones— which is scary. If you need a little extra push to get out of your comfort zone, check out this article on why you should chase the things that scare you.
